Licensing & privacy
SchematIaC is commercial software with a free six-month licence. A licence is required: canvases will not open without one, and your files are untouched either way.
The free six-month licence
Get it from the activation screen a canvas shows, or with SchematIaC: Get Free Licence in the command palette. Enter your email, then the 6-digit code from the email you receive; the key arrives by email too and is already active on the machine that requested it. The licence lasts six months from the day you ask for it, with everything unlocked. It is one per email address and machine, and the key is bound to that machine — it will not unlock another one. Email My Key re-sends a lost key. We email you before the six months end and once when they have; after that, canvases open again with a purchased key.
Licence keys
Buy at schematiac.com/pricing. Your key arrives by email; paste it once with SchematIaC: Enter Licence Key. Purchased keys are term keys and are not machine-bound. SchematIaC: Licence Status shows who is licensed and until when.
Keys are cryptographically signed and verified offline — there is no licence check-in, ever. Once activated, the extension needs no network at all for the canvas.
What goes over the network
Stated plainly, because it is short:
- Getting the free licence sends your email address and an anonymous installation digest (a hash of the machine’s own install identity and your user name — never the values themselves; two digests while an older format is still honoured) to the licensing service, which emails you the 6-digit code.
- Verifying the code sends the same plus the code, and returns your key.
- Preview upgrade… asks the Terraform Registry (and, if needed, the provider’s GitHub tag) for version lists, module interfaces, and resource docs. It sends only addresses, version strings, and resource type names — never your files — and only after you accept a first-use prompt. Cached per version. An air-gapped machine loses that preview, not the canvas.
That is the complete list. No telemetry, no analytics, no licence check-in — and never any of your Terraform or Bicep, at any point. The engine is compiled to WebAssembly and runs inside VS Code; nothing you open on a canvas is uploaded anywhere.

Teams
Team licences cover a number of seats, assigned by email from the team management page linked in your purchase email. Each member gets their own key. Teams can be issued licence keys in one batch.
Bugs
Product bugs, parse failures, and feature requests go to github.com/schematiac/issues. Do not paste customer Terraform or Bicep — a public sample or a stripped-down snippet is enough.
